3 Great Hikes in Malibu and the San Fernando Valley

Hiking is a great way to exercise and a good way to explore your city in ways that not many people do.

Hiking is a great way to get away from the stresses of everyday life and be one with nature–all while keeping your heart rate up and burning some calories! One of the many perks that comes with living in The Conejo Valley is all of the great hiking routes that are close by. Here are three great hikes that are easy enough for the kids, but are still fun for adults, so you and your family can tackle them this weekend!

  1. Malibu Creek – Malibu, CA

If you’re a fan of classic television, you might recognize this hike from the hit T.V. series, M.A.S.H. It’s located right off Kanan in Malibu Canyon and is a beautiful lake with large boulders that you can swim in and watch the rock climbers attempt to climb the cliff face. You can pay to park, or park outside the entrance and save $12.

  1. Saddle Peak – Santa Monica Mountains, CA

This hike is great for the entire family. It may not be the most strenuous hike, but the sights and experiences are worth it. Take the Stunt Peak Trail off the Backbone Trail and eventually climb the east side of Saddle Peak.   The view from the top looks over the Pacific, so try and go on a clear day!

  1. Grotto Trail – Malibu, CA

This is a cool little area that not many people know exist. The trail is right off Decker Canyon in the hills of Malibu. The grotto area is just a  mile and half from the starting point and is an awesome cave area with giant boulders.
